SCOUTS WORK FOR EAGLE BADGES

Eagle ScoutsThey have selected to work on bicycles to take to Hopi Land on the Christmas trip the first week-end in December and gather books for the library in the new grade school at Gap, AZ. They are working with the Wards in their Stake, ads in the paper and on the internet. Their goal is up to 30 bikes, 5+ tricycles, and up to 1000 books from K to 6th grade in excellent condition. They will repair the bikes and see they are in great conditon before we deliver them.

Anyone wanting to help them out can call 435-634-9988 and leave a message.

Michael & Dallin Wilson, Ivins, Utah, are Scouts working on their Service badges.

Eagle ScoutsThe two eagle candidates, Michael and Dallin Wilson, are shown here loading up bikes from Roberta Bryan's garage, to be taken to their place to be repaired by scout volunteers. We are not sure which one is Dallin or Michael, we assume they are brothers - perhaps twins? They didn't provide us with that information, but they look like fine young men and they are involved in a worthy cause. We don't know who the boy in the black shirt is - but we're sure he is a good kid too! Thanks guys!

EAGLE PROJECT OF STEVEN CARTER
Mike helps load"My plan is to collect blankets, coats, and other items for the Mike Sweat Hopi Outreach. I will send out fliers telling my ward that I will come by their homes to collect the items. I will have the scouts help me do this. I will also go down to the Hopi reservation to help distribute these items. This will provide the Hopi people with much needed essentials to ease their poverty. I will collect items on Nov 17 2007. I will announce it in church on the 4th and the 11th. I will send out fliers on the 8th and the 16th."load of stuff

Mike helpsAnother wonderful story of volunteerism was this young man who was working on his Eagle Project, when Glen Kimber put out the call for help for the Hopi's last winter. He responded by collecting over 576 quilts & blankets for the elderly who were uncomfotably cold due to the cold weather and the shut down of the Peabody Coal Mine which provided coal for the tribe. Remember, these people, for the most part, have no central heating system, they have to huddle next to a pot bellied stove when they are awake and then quickly crawl under a bunch of blankets when they go to bed. Even though the reservation is in Arizona, it is quite high up and temperatures often reach below zero.
