Transporting items down to the Hopi Reservation is very expensive and so we have tried to make every trip and every foot of space in the trailers precious. We have asked the various residents of the reservation villages what they really need and what we could bring them that would help them out the most. The following is a list of items they have requested the last time we talked with them.
- Tarps, (mostly to tarp off roofs that are leaking)
- Sewing Machines, (not only for their own needs, but they can make money with their sewing machines)
- Dressers
- Couches
- Beds, (especially roll-a-ways, hide-abeds, trundle beds, bunk beds - there are often many people staying in a small dwelling)
- Windows, doors & frames, doors without frames
- Table & chairs, folding chairs
- Tires of various sizes, (the rez roads are rough on tires)
- Good usable carpeting - area rugs
- Propane stoves, natural gas stoves, potbellied & other wood burning stoves
- Bikes and trikes of all sizes
- Building materials
- Blankets, Blankets, & more Blankets, (quilts are especially appreciated)
- Propane or kerosene lanterns
- water jugs with pumps or siphon hoses, Update: we don't need any more water jugs. We can get as many as we want from Coca Cola, but we still need the pumps and siphon hoses.
- Tillers
- Tractors, new or used
- cottonwood roots for carving of katchina dolls
- Boy Scout & Camping items. Update: we have a fledgling Boy Scout Troup on the Hopi Rez. They need all sorts of Boy Scout related items; uniforms, handbooks, merit badge books, tents, sleeping bags, almost anything Boy Scout related, we can use. We have about 8 scouts now, but we anticipate doubling that amount in the next few months.
